The files that are needed by the boot process become fragmented across your hard drive over time. This, of course, slows down the system startup. That’s why you should use the built-in defrag tool, which is equipped with a special parameter to defragment the boot environment. Here is how to use this tool:
- To launch defrag, in Windows 10/8.1 press [Windows Key] +[X] and click on
Command Prompt (Admin). In Windows 7, click on Start >
All Programs > Accessories. Right-click on
Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator. - Type in defrag C: -b and press Enter.
- The defragmentation process will start once you re-boot your PC and the boot environment will be optimised – therefore considerably speeding up the Windows boot process.
