Vista users have it easier than XP users if they want to upgrade from their existing operating system to Windows 7. This is because a direct update to Windows 7 is only available from Vista, meaning that all data, programs and settings are transferred to the new operating system. XP users must manually backup all of their files and settings, install Windows 7, then restore the data from their backup.
