These errors can usually be dealt with by repairing corrupt Windows Update and system files. To do so, you need to use the System Readiness Tool – this is a download from Microsoft that prepares your Windows system for an upgrade by checking for and repairing corrupt system files. However, it will replace the corrupt Windows Update files that are causing the errors too. To repair your system, follow these steps:
- Open your web browser and go to the site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
- Download the corresponding update package for your Windows version.
- Run the System Readiness Tool installer to apply the fix.
Restart your system and try running Windows Update again.
