If there is one thing missing from Windows XP, its a second copy of Windows XP. The problem is that XPs use of the NTFS (New Technology File System) format makes it very difficult to repair the registry from MS-DOS (which can only access FAT and FAT32 file structures). Most users assume that backing up the registry from the Registry Editor allows for a complete restoration. Firstly, the Registry Editor does not backup all of the registrys security keys. In addition, if a corrupted registry prevents Windows XP from being started it is not possible to reload a backed up copy of the registry using the Registry Editor. Now you can take a simple precaution that System Administrators have previously kept to themselves!
