Create More Space on Your Taskbar

Windows 10 has the search box built into the taskbar. This has the advantage that you can quickly search for things but a lot of the space on your taskbar is taken up as a result. If you need more space for your program icons and shortcuts, you can shrink the search box or make it disappear. Proceed as follows to do so:

Right-click on the search box at the side of the Start button and select Search or hover the mouse over the Cortana menu option. The default option will be selected (Show search box). You can also choose from Hidden or either the Show Cortana icon or Show Search (Cortana) icon, depending on whether you have Cortana enabled or not.

Select Show Cortana icon or Show Search (Cortana) icon and a much smaller box will appear showing a magnifying glass. Clicking on it will open the full search box.

Select Hidden and the search box will disappear completely. If you want to search, press [Windows Key] + [P], or [Windows Key] + [Q].
