XP: Slim-down Windows for Improved Efficiency

Youre probably familiar with the most common XP versions, Home and Professional. However, theres a version of Windows XP that youve probably never even heard of: Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs (FLP). This is a slimmed-down version of Windows XP designed to run on low-specification computers. If youve recently joined the craze for cheap scaled-down netbook laptops, such as the Asus EEEPC, or have tried running Windows XP on an old PC designed for Windows 98, and found the performance of standard XP sluggish, FLP may be just what youre looking for. However, FLP is not strictly speaking available to consumers, and if you already have a copy of Windows XP there is no reason why you should fork out for another version of Windows. In this article, well show you how to create a lightweight, efficient version of XP for free, by removing the components you dont require from your existing XP installation CD.
